The Chinese version of yesterday's clash was given by the Kung Sheung Evening News of Hong Kong as follows:-
SHACKS DEMOLISHED AGAIN
Bloodshed was the result of yesterday morning when inhabitants in the Kowloon "walled city" tried to stop a party of Hong Kong police pulling down the shacks reconstructed since they were demolished by the Hong Kong government on Jan.5.
About twenty of these huts have been reconstructed to afford shelter to the several inhabitants who have been evicted and become homeless since the first demolition started a week ago. These shacks were the object of the Hong Kong police yesterday morning when 150 policemen armed with rattan shields and tear gas bombs.
Two hurt, Some "Gassed"
When the police began their work some stones were thrown and they fired some rifle shots into the ground and at the same time applied tear gas to disperse the crowd. As a result several persons were injured and taken to hospital while meantime the police continued to demolish every reconstructed hut erected.
A representative of the inhabitants told the reporters that they possessed no firearms but had thrown some stones at the police. One representative and many others fainted under the tear gas and two inhabitants, one man and one woman, were wounded by the rifle shots. They were under treatment in the Kowloon Hospital among six others who suffered from the tear gas.
